| We have just one requirement for attendance: that you have been at a 2 or more day community building event with FCE, CBiB (Community Building in Britain), ourselves (Fine Tune), or equivalent organisation. (We may also need to find out, in discussion with you, how well you understand the difference in principle between "participation", "discussion" and "facilitation" - because the training entails very nimble navigation between these modes.) WHAT IS COMMUNITY-BUILDING REALLY? | |
![]() | In Community Building we recognize the simple, well-nigh instinctive path to mutual rapport - and we work together to move beyond the old habits, the mistaken assumptions and the unresolved pain and grievances that regularly de-rail or block the formation of real relationship. That state of spontaneous rapport (which we call: "Community") is the common element in the love that springs up naturally - when it is not thwarted - between children and their parents, between lovers, between bosom friends, and amongst comrades-in-arms. There can be little doubt that it is part of the human instinctive repertoire. We have learned to find the path to community even when there are standing obstacles: prejudice, religious or personal conflict, and mutual hurt, distress or mis-understanding. This is never achieved without personal sacrifice: the willingness to let go of cherished assumptions, expectations or illusions about ourselves and other people. When we are willing to do this we very often find that there is a spirit greater than ourselves that is clearly at work. Something is drawing us into community and reconciliation - through a grace that we can open ourselves to, can consent to, but can never command or will. |
PARTICIPATION AND FACILITATIONParticipating in community and facilitating community are two different things - but if you want to be an effective facilitator in the long run, you must first know how to build community. Effective facilitating depends crucially upon the community you have already built with your co-facilitator or back-up team. Therefore you need to have built community with these people actually (and not just gone through the motions). And you must be able to work through any disagreements or difficulties that emerge in your work together.A TIME FOR SHARING... As trainers we are offering a structure that will guide us in a shared process of collaborative enquiry, drawing on your experience and knowledge as well as our own. We will use a variety of formats: CB circle, "fishbowl", "brainstorming" and small group explorations. After 15 years of doing this work we are well aware that "training" is a never-ending process - thus we cannot offer to fully train you in a couple of 3-day sessions. However we do expect that our time together will be a time of deep discovery and enrichment COSTIndividuals (self-funding) £250 Corporate £500 This includes accommodation, food, refreshments and course materials. The accommodation is Spartan and it may be that more private and luxurious accommodation may be available via the venue owners.
